With open PC- and EtherCAT-based automation solutions from Beckhoff, the entire process chain of individual packaging machines as well as complete packaging lines can be controlled and monitored. XTS: the linear motor with circular motion
The new XTS drive system (eXtended Transport System) from Beckhoff offers new freedom for mechanical engineering. The motor is completely integrated together with power electronics and displacement measurement. One or more movers – wireless, mobile carrier modules – can be moved highly dynamically at up to 4 m/s on an almost arbitrary and flexible path configuration. Mechanical grippers can be dispensed with. This way, XTS revolutionises drive technology in a compact design and offers high flexibility in product changes for consumer goods. XTS
TwinCAT: efficient engineering and
multi-core support

TwinCAT unites PLC, Motion Control, Condition Monitoring, engineering and robotics on a single platform. Software modules provide prefabricated solutions especially for the packaging industry: fast cam controllers, flying saw or various kinematics, e.g. 3-D delta, for the direct integration of robots into the PC controller. TwinCAT 3 automation software opens up new possibilities for the packaging industry: TwinCAT 3 supports all common programming standards, from C/C++ to the object-oriented extension of IEC 61131-3. Active multi-core support allows additional control hardware to be replaced by the

Multi-touch panels offer maximum flexibility
The new CP2xxx and CP3xxx Control Panel and Panel PC series are characterised by multi-touch displays as well as a contemporary, elegant device design. As built-in or mounting arm devices, the aluminium panels are extremely robust and are designed for use under harsh industrial conditions. Widescreen panels in various sizes and resolutions are available in addition to the classic display sizes in
4:3 format. Multi-touch offers modern control concepts, such as access validation by ‘hidden buttons’ or the swipe technology familiar from the consumer world.

Complete control solution in “Hygienic Design”
For packaging applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries, Beckhoff offers an integral stainless steel control solution in a ‘Hygienic Design’ that meets the strict requirements of hygiene and cleanroom regulations. The stainless steel Panel PCs and Control Panels with IP 65 protection are supplemented by stainless steel servo- motors with IP 67 protection (optionally
IP 69K). The EtherCAT Box modules in stainless steel cover the typical range of requirements for I/O signals. The IP 69K modules can be used in the extended temperature range from -25 to +60 °C.

Complete servo drive in a compact EtherCAT Terminal
The EL7201 servo terminal for the Beckhoff EtherCAT Terminal system integrates a complete servo drive for motors up to 200 W into a standard terminal housing. Integration into the EtherCAT I/O system simplifies cabling and commissioning considerably and reduces space requirements and costs. The servomotors from the AM3000 series (standstill torque 0.16 to 0.65 Nm) and the AM8131 (standstill torque 1.13 Nm) are optimally matched to the servo terminal. Servo terminal
Scalable drive technology and servomotor with One Cable Technology
The scalable drive solutions from Beckhoff cover a broad range of applications: from the servo terminal to the AX5000 EtherCAT drives for outputs of up to 118 KW. TwinCAT offers a uniform engineering tool for simple commissioning. The Drive Technology is complemented by the new Beckhoff servomotors from the AM8000 series, which cover a wide range of applications from 0.9 to 65 Nm standstill torque.
