The 2015 Achema fair, which took place in Frankfurt am Main from June 15 to 19, was highly successful, attracting over 166,000 visitors from around the world. “We can entirely confirm the positive impression reflected in the figures issued by the exhibition organizers,” reported Thomas Kosthorst, Business Management, Plastic Processing Machines at Beckhoff. “This year’s Achema was very exciting, and from our point of view extremely successful, as we made contact with numerous customers and prospects from all the major industries.” “It was noticeable that customers from ATEX industries perceive us as competent partners considering our numerous solutions for measurement, control, and process technology,” added Benjamin Bruns, Product Manager for Fieldbus Systems at Beckhoff.
PC-based control technology offers scalable performance and optimum fieldbus integration, making it ideal for automating processes in chemical laboratories, to handle complex measurement tasks, for just one example. The new EJ series of EtherCAT plug-in modules, a compact I/O solution for series machine and equipment applications, also attracted considerable attention in the Beckhoff booth. The advantages of the EJ system were demonstrated in an example application representing a Zone 1 hazardous area: the small footprint of these EJ modules makes it possible to use smaller, pressure-resistant enclosures in hazardous environments (Ex d), or to accommodate a higher number of I/O channels or other components within the same space, thus considerably reducing costs for the user.
There was also a good response to our stainless steel panel systems for the process industry and the completely stainless steel ‘hygienic design’ control solution, which is suitable for all applications in the pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries.
“Of course, Achema’s exhibitors also included manufacturers of packaging machinery with innovations in the field of pharmaceutical packaging, including some applications based on our own eXtended Transport System (XTS). This brought a large number of interested visitors to our booth, so we can be very satisfied with the outcome of this year’s Achema,” commented Frank Würthner, Business Management, Packaging Technology at Beckhoff.
“Other frequently discussed topics at the booth were Industry 4.0, and secure data communications up to the Cloud on the basis of OPC UA,” said Benjamin Bruns. “In the context of the ‘Smart Factory’ we are increasingly perceived as a specialist who, with PC-based control, fulfils the most significant conditions for Industry 4.0 concepts.”
