With 216,000 trade visitors from 160 countries and nearly 2,600 exhibitors, the Light + Building trade show, which was held March 13 to 18 in Frankfurt, Germany, once again posted record numbers. The central motto of the largest trade show for lighting and building technologies was “digital – individual – networked” to signify that smart technologies like the integrated planning, digitisation and increased networking capabilities of buildings are the key for a modern and flexible environment – especially at the workplace, in public facilities, and in purpose-built buildings such as hotels and hospitals.
At its booth covering 240 square meters, Beckhoff demonstrated the technologies using which these goals can be implemented easily and efficiently. The large number of visitors focused especially on our integrated system of TwinCAT Building Automation software and the new eXtendable Room Box, which significantly reduces the engineering time for building automation solutions. The flexibly expandable system consists of a freely selectable box and the individually required Bus Terminals. The user benefits from a customised and freely configurable box that is ready for installation and wiring anywhere in the building via plug-and-play technology. Other popular exhibits included the new KL6821 multi-master terminal, which turns each Beckhoff controller into a DALI-2 master, as well as TwinCAT IoT as a foundational technology for the quick and efficient implementation of IoT and Industrie 4.0 applications.
According to Georg Schemmann, Business Manager Building Automation, the visitors at the show clearly recognised the benefits of the smart technologies from Beckhoff: “In many discussions, the demand for minimising the engineering effort was clearly apparent. We can meet these requirements perfectly with our all-in-one solution of TwinCAT Building Automation and the eXtendable Room Box. In addition, customers benefit from the integrated data communication, including links to the cloud, made possible by TwinCAT IoT – very much in line with the trade show’s motto.
